News for March, 2015

The first month of spring gave a lot of updates for our products. Please check what we got for you.

But first, check a coupe of general news. Our team made a media streaming industry news review for March. Also, the State of Streaming Protocols for March 2015 is available, having a significant increase of share for HLS.

NAB Show 2015

NAB Show 2015 is coming up in April. Our CEO Yury Udovichenko will attend the event on April 13, 14 and 15, so please feel free to contact him and schedule a meeting if you'd like to discuss anything regarding our products.

Nimble Streamer

We are glad to announce that Nimble Streamer is now available on MacOS in addition to Linux and Windows. New platform has the same rich feature set. Check MacOS installation instruction to start.

Another update is for those who uses Nimble on distributed edges. Our team released a sample source code for performing basic geo-location balancing of HTTP-based streaming. You can use it for further customization in your infrastructure.
Speaking of balancing and edges, check our new FAQ question for setting up Wowza RTMP origin and Nimble HLS and MPEG-DASH edge with hotlink protection as some customers prefer using Wowza as a transcoding origin for further protected streaming via Nimble.

If you prefer using Nimble as origin, you may now provide media streams without session ID parameters, makes them eligible to be origin source for CDNs.

WMSPanel API has big update for Nimble Streamer control. You can set up VOD and re-streaming routes via API methods called the same as other REST WMSPanel API methods.
If you need to apply all existing VOD and re-streaming settings to a new instance via web UI, use the new enhancement in our web UI to do it in just a few clicks.

For VOD, in addition to recent MP4 track support, Nimble Streamer now supports track selection in VOD ABR HLS via SMIL files.

Audio streaming customers may find useful audio streaming setup via Icecast playlist as input. You'll get multiple input streams from single playlist.

Some scenarios require configuring Cache-Control headers for HLS playlists and chunks. This is now available in Nimble as well.
